• Community Giving the Ultima Way

    By

For Ultima, community involvement has been a long-standing part of who we are. For more than 26 years, our club and its staff have contributed tens of thousands of dollars and countless volunteer hours to improve the community of Wellington. Helping people has always been important to us. Ultima Fitness truly values how fortunate we are and continually gives back to our community by helping others less fortunate.

Ultima Fitness was one of the creators and original presenters of the Wellington Community Fitness 5k Run Walk. We started this event to help bring our community together while raising money to help others. Xtreme Tae Kwon Do hosts an Annual Kick-a-thon where students are invited to “kick for a cause.” This is a great way to teach our kids the importance of helping others and to recognize how fortunate they are for all the things they have in their lives. We continue to participate in various community outreach programs such as Palm Beach School events, Village of Wellington Holiday Food & Toy drives as well as helping our own member’s support the charities that are near and dear to their hearts.

And the giving doesn’t end with us. Our members have always been consistent contributors to organizations they and their fellow members are passionate about. They’ve packed the group exercise room for a “marathon” class or even donated without attending. This is what makes Ultima a family, both staff and members.

In an effort to promote “paying it forward,” this month we want to highlight some recent efforts we’ve made to better the community and organizations in it. We hope sharing will inspire you to give back to our community!

    ● On February 13, 2016, Ultima held a Cycle-a-thon for “One More Shot Gary,” to raise money and awareness for cancer. The 90-minute class was fun for everyone involved and raised nearly $1,300.

    ● In February of this year, Ultima lost a tremendous member and visible figure in the community. Matt Mounts was a consistent and meaningful presence at Wellington High School as well as at Ultima. In his honor, Ultima held “One Last Workout” to benefit the Matthew S. Mounts Scholarship Fund and give the athletes and kids who knew him best a way to say goodbye. Over 50 Wellington students participated and we raised over $800 to launch the scholarship fund.

    ● This March, Ultima, once again, kicked off the annual “Let’s Move” campaign in partnership with Palm Healthcare Foundation. We opened our doors to the community to get started on exercising more, and signed up participants to be a part of the Let’s Move Wellington Team. End result, over 800,000 minutes recorded of exercise during March making Wellington the 5th most active community in Palm Beach County!

    ● Last month, we held a Zumba-thon to raise awareness for ALS. Nearly 40 participants packed the Group Fitness Studio for an hour of dancing, sweating, and giving to an organization committed to finding a cure for ALS. The event raised $925 and members walked away with a little more knowledge of the disease.

These are just a sample of what we’ve contributed to this year. There’s more, but we hope this sample is contagious. If you’re inspired by this, reach out to the organizations in the Wellington Community and give back to what you’re passionate about. Consider it a healthy workout for your soul.
